The Kuschka ( Turkmen Guşgy ) is a left tributary of the Murgab in Afghanistan and Turkmenistan ( Central Asia ).
It arises at the confluence of the Āq Robāţ and Galleh Chaghar in northwestern Afghanistan on the northern flank of the Selseleh-ye Safīd Kūh (ancient name: Paropamisus ). From there it flows initially in a north-westerly direction, later in a northerly direction through the north of the Herat province to the border with Turkmenistan. She passes the city of Koshk-e Kohneh . The river forms the state border for about 10 km. The Afghan border town of Toraghundi is on the left bank of the river . Then the Kushka turns in a north-easterly direction to Turkmenistan and passes the city of Serhetabat . In the lower reaches it now flows in a predominantly north-northeast direction and finally flows into the Murgab.
The Kuschka has a length of 277 km. It drains an area of 10,700 km². The mean discharge at the mouth is 3.52 m² / s. In the summer months the river runs dry.
