Kiss waltz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kiss Waltz is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 400). The work was composed in 1881 and premiered under the direction of Eduard Strauss on the occasion of a court ball on January 10, 1882.

Remarks

The composer has put the work together based on motifs from the operetta The Merry War . It thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 397 , 398 , 399 , 401 , 402 , 403 , 404 , 405 and 407 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. One of the main motifs is the couplet Nur für Natur , (No. 11 of the operetta score), which was popularized by the well-known actor and singer Alexander Girardi . Johann Strauss therefore always spoke of this waltz only as a natural waltz . Another waltz, which was also created from melodies from this operetta, is the Italian waltz (op. 407).

The playing time is about 6 minutes plus minus a few seconds, depending on the musical understanding of the respective conductor. Strauss originally dedicated the waltz to his wife Angelika nee Dittrich. After the marriage broke up and divorced in 1882, the composer withdrew the dedication.
