Kustbevakningen (Swedish: "Coast Guard") is Sweden's national coast guard .

Task and organization

The Swedish Coast Guard is responsible for the border protection of the Swedish territorial area at its sea ​​borders . Other tasks are fisheries control , monitoring of environmental protection standards , environmental police tasks and search and rescue operations at sea.

Kustbevakningen has 26 stations on the long Swedish coast , including an air division. The stations are subordinate to two regional headquarters in Stockholm (east) and Gothenburg (west). The daily duty is monitored and directed around the clock by regional command centers. The Reich-wide headquarters with the general staff and other specialist departments are located in Karlskrona . Rescue operations are carried out with the Swedish SAR organization Sjöräddningssällskapet .

The Swedish Coast Guard's fleet consists of a number of ships and three maritime patrols . The ships and their equipment, as important tools for the Swedish Coast Guard, are continuously being developed with modern technology.

The Swedish fleet of ships includes surveillance vessels, multi-purpose vessels (including KBV-031-class ), environmental protection patrol boats and hovercraft . The Swedish Coast Guard also uses speedboats , inflatable rafts (Zodiacs), work boats, beach cleaners and jet skis.

On the larger ships, the crews have an integrated radar and nautical chart system at their disposal. The smaller boats and jet skis are also equipped with chart plotters , GPS and other devices. Most boats are equipped with AIS ( Automatic Identification System ). Infrared cameras, video cameras, night vision devices, oil radars, underwater cameras, sonar and echo sounders are also used to facilitate searches and environmental monitoring.

The Kustbevakningen De Havilland DHC-8-300 aircraft are not only used for surveillance and reconnaissance along the Swedish coast, but are also active in a number of international missions.
