Oleg Jemeljanowitsch Kutafin ( Russian Олег Емельянович Кутафин ; born June 26, 1937 in Odessa ; † December 4, 2008 in Moscow ) was a Russian lawyer and professor .

Life

Kutafin studied law at Moscow's Lomonosov University . Since 1964 he has taught at the Law Institute for Distance Learning in Moscow, since 1971 - at his alma mater. From 1973 to 1982 he was the deputy dean of the law faculty of Lomonosov University, where he received his habilitation in 1979 and was awarded the title of professor two years later. In 1987 he returned to the Legal Institute for Distance Learning as Rector. He headed the college, later renamed the Moscow Law Academy (now University), until his death in December 2008. After that, it was named after Kutafin.

Kutafin - a specialist in constitutional law - was involved in drafting the Russian constitution . Later he was the deputy secretary of the Russian Social Chamber and President of the Russian Lawyers Association. In addition, Kutafin was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences . Kutafin was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of all four classes. After his death he was buried in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery.
