Kvannhovden fyr (official name, often Kvanhovden fyr is also used) is a lighthouse on the island of Hovden in the Norwegian province of Vestland , about 15 km northwest of the city of Florø .

The lighthouse stands on a cliff on the Kvannhovden peninsula, around 40 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest placed lighthouses in Norway. Kvannhovden is separated from the main part of the island by Store Skorekinna , a 310 meter high mountain. The actual lighthouse consists of an extension to the wooden lighthouse keeper's house.
It marks the southern mouth of the Frøysjøen fjord into the Atlantic . On the north side of Frøysjøen is the island of Frøya with the Tettsted Kalvåg . There is no road connection to the lighthouse that can only be reached on foot or by boat.
history
Construction of the lighthouse began in 1895 and the first beacon was lit on November 5th. At first it was just a kerosene lamp , which was replaced by a more powerful lamp in 1932. Until 1968 the lighthouse had a permanent lighthouse keeper who lived here with his family. As a side income he also ran cattle and sheep on the fertile pastures of the peninsula. In 1949 the lighthouse keeper was assigned an assistant. He lived in the assistant's apartment, of which only the foundations can be seen today. The assistant house was shipped to Florø and rebuilt there.
On January 6, 1918, the Swedish barque Olga stranded on the cliffs by the lighthouse. The captain managed to steer the ship onto the beach at Kvannhovden and to rescue the 18 − strong crew into the lighthouse keeper's house.
In 1980 Kvannhovden fyr was automated and has been uninhabited since then. The lighthouse keeper's apartment with up to 10 beds has since been rented out as a holiday home.
