Kvismaren is a 780 hectare nature reserve in Sweden in the historic Närke region, southeast of the city of Örebro . It consists of the western and eastern Kvismaresee with surrounding reed beds and pastures as well as wet meadows, cattle pastures and forest.

The two lakes were created in the 19th century through a drainage project in the area of the former crime scene Mosås , which is now incorporated into Örebro . South of the waters, also known as rysjön and fågelsjön , flows the 71 km long Kvismare Canal, which stretches from north of Vretstorp to the mouth of the Hjälmaren near Segersjö and thus far beyond the Ramsar area .

Waders and ducks (ducks, geese, swans) are found in large numbers, especially the bean goose . Snakes prefer to spend the winter on the Öby Kulle land bridge between the two lakes. Visitors have access to an observation tower. The water level is regulated to mitigate flooding.

The Birds and bird watching are in the Natura 2000 a special status -type region. The ornithological station rings a six-digit number of individuals from around 160 species, including ear grebes , mountain hippopotamus , whooper swan , peregrine falcon , golden cockerel , long-tailed duck , pygmy hawk , lapwing , hen harrier and gray heron . After renaturation measures in the 1980s, an increasing number of cranes came to the resting place.
