Kwangwanase (also KwaNgwanase or Manguzi , formerly Kosi Bay ) is a place in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . It is the administrative center of the municipality UMhlabuyalingana Local Municipality in the district umkhanyakude district municipality .

In 2011 Kwanganase (under the name Manguzi) had 6,875 inhabitants. 92% said isiZulu was the first language .

The place is west of Kosi Bay ("Kosi Bay"), an inland lake on the Indian Ocean , in the northeastern tip of South Africa. It is 15 kilometers to the border between Mozambique and South Africa .

history

The place was founded as Kosi Bay or Kosibaai. The name probably comes from the isiZulu word ukosi for " Black Eagle " ( Aquila verreauxii ). Kwangwanase is also isiZulu and means “place of Ngwanase”. Ngwanase was a traditional ruler in the area.

Economy and Transport

The R22 trunk road connects Hluhluwe in the southwest with the Mozambican border at Ponta do Ouro in the northeast. The airfield Kosibaai Airport is located south of the city.
