Kylie Rae Harris ( May 15, 1989 in Wylie , Texas - September 4, 2019 in Taos , New Mexico ) was an American singer-songwriter specializing in country music .

Life

Kylie Rae Harris wrote her first song when she was 14. At least that's how Saving Country Music reported , whose article also read: “Music was always in me. I have to do it. For me it's all or nothing. I'll be writing music and singing all my life whether I am bankrupt or not. ”In 2013 she released her first EP, Taking It Back . A year later she won the Best Female Singer award at the Texas Regional Radio Music Awards. Two albums followed and a new EP only in March 2019. At the beginning of September 2019 she was in northern New Mexico, where she was supposed to perform at the Big Barn Dance in Taos on the 5th of the month .

She lived in Texas and had a 6 year old daughter, Corbie. She was a single mother. Three and a half years before the accident, the child's father died of cancer at the age of 54. In "Twenty Years From Now", a song from her last project, Kylie Rae Harris turned to her daughter - in the hope that she would one day understand her and forgive her wrong decisions. This song was sung at her funeral.

death

When Kylie Rae Harris was driving a Chevrolet Equinox on State Road 522 in Taos , New Mexico on September 4, 2019 , the speedometer showed 102  mph , which is a little over 160 km / h. The speed limit in New Mexico is 75 mph, on undivided country roads a maximum of 55 to 70 mph. She hit a Chevrolet Avalanche from behind, got into the oncoming lane and collided head-on - now at around 95 mph - with an oncoming jeep . The driver of this car, 16-year-old Maria Elena Cruz, died at the scene of the accident; as well as Kylie Rae Harris. The driver of the car that was touched first was uninjured.

Taos County's Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe pointed out that Maria Elena Cruz had been allowed to travel at only 51 mph and was believed to be the innocent victim of a senseless collision caused by Kylie Rae Harris. Her mother, Betsy Cowan, admitted that the singer had struggled with alcohol problems for years. The autopsy showed that Harris had blood alcohol levels three times the legal limit at the time of the accident. In 2017, she was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol.
