The Kyritzer Platte is a natural area in the North Brandenburg plateau and hill country . In the natural division of Germany , it forms the main unit 773.

location

The higher Kyritzer Platte stands out during the Elbe flood 2013 near Havelberg opposite the flooded Elbe valley and Havel lowlands.

The Kyritzer Platte lies in the angle between the Perleberger Heide in the southwest, the Prignitz in the north and the Dossiederung in the east. The southern tip of the Kyritzer Platte touches the Lower Rhinluch . Morphologically , the immediate northern vicinity of the core town of Havelberg also belongs to the Kyritzer Platte, but is isolated from it by the Perleberger Heide. The town of Kyritz is located on the eastern edge of the landscape.

The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation includes the Kyritzer Platte in the Prignitz natural area .

description

Like the Prignitz to the north, the Kyritzer Platte is a flat undulating ground moraine surface . Numerous valley lowlands such as those of the Karthane , Jäglitz and the Königsfließ as well as isolated sand hills enliven the landscape.

In terms of soil types , sand and loamy sands are found to be roughly equal. Flat moor soils can be found in the lowlands . The Kyritzer Platte is mainly used for agriculture today. In between there are only small pieces of forest.

The 260 hectare Köngisfließ nature reserve with its wet meadows should be emphasized as a nature reserve.
