Dossen lowlands near Wittstock

The Dossiederung is a natural spatial unit and part of the North Brandenburg plateau and hill country . It forms a flat valley sand area that extends between the ground moraine areas of Prignitz and Kyritzer Platte in the west and the Wittstock-Ruppiner Heide and Ruppiner Platte in the east. Compared to these neighboring landscapes, it is sunk by about ten meters.

In the north of the Dosseniederung lies the town of Wittstock / Dosse and the associated Freyenstein , in the south Neustadt (Dosse) . The extension along the Dosse flowing from north to south is about 45 kilometers. The east-west expansion is much smaller, but fluctuates strongly. In the broader central area, a sander is poured into the lowland from the west . When the heart leaps, oser and small ground moraine sections rise from the sand surface. The channel lakes of the Kyritz chain of lakes bear witness to the past of the lowland as a meltwater channel during the Vistula ice age .

The Dosse lowland was originally overgrown with extensive alder forests. Today it is used both for agriculture and forestry. Bog areas, especially along the Dosse, are used as grassland.
