László Arany

László Arany [ ˈlaːsloː ˈɒrɒɲ ] (born March 24, 1844 in Salonta (Hungarian Nagyszalonta ), Bihar County , Kingdom of Hungary ; † August 1, 1898 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian poet.

László Arany, a son of János Arany , published the poetic story Elfrida early on , which made him a member of the Kisfaludy Society . In a later poem based on Kaulbach's painting Die Hunnenschlacht , he describes the struggle between Germanness and Magyarism in Hungary and passionately urges his compatriots to hate and fight against the German language and culture. He also translated a number of dramas by Shakespeare and Molière with great skill .

Arany had been secretary of the Hungarian Soil Credit Institute in Budapest from 1880 and occupied a prominent place among the young poets of Hungary.
