László Erdey
László Erdey (born February 12, 1910 in Szeged , † February 21, 1970 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian chemist ( analytical chemistry ).
Life
Erdey was the son of a railway official and studied physics and chemistry at the Eötvös Loránd University , graduating in 1933. He then worked as a chemist for the Ministry of Finance, the State Hygiene Institute and the Patent Office. In 1938 he received his doctorate and got a position at the Institute for Food Testing. In 1949 he became a lecturer and in 1950 professor for chemistry at the TU Budapest .
Erdey introduced ascorbic acid into dimensional analysis and developed indicators (luminescent indicators , variamin blue for redox reactions). He developed the derivatograph for thermal analysis, introduced the perforated electrode into spectroscopy , invented the flame photometric calcium titration and developed photometric methods for purity testing in industry.
