László Schäffer

László Schäffer (born July 19, 1893 in Uzhgorod , † May 28, 1979 in Los Angeles ) was a Hungarian cameraman .

He came to Budapest at a young age and worked there as a photographer. During the First World War he became a cameraman and went to Berlin in 1920 . At the side of Fritz Arno Wagner he shot the horror story Schloss Vogelöd .

Another highlight in Schäffer's career was his work as one of several cameramen in Walter Ruttmann's experimental documentary Berlin - The Symphony of the Big City . In 1929 he shot the socially critical film So ist das Leben with Carl Junghans .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, Schäffer, who was of Jewish origin, returned to Budapest. There he stood behind the camera several times until he emigrated to the USA in 1939. He settled in the film metropolis of Los Angeles, but received no commissions that corresponded to his profession.
