The 1st Lig 1973/74 was the 16th season of the highest Turkish league in men's football . It began on September 8, 1973 with the game Vefa Istanbul against MKE Ankaragücü , which went 0-2 and ended on May 26, 1974. From January 6, 1974 to February 9, 1974 the season was interrupted by the winter break.
First and Turkish football champion was Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Fenerbahçe thus overtook Galatasaray Istanbul with seven championships and became the sole record champions. Beşiktaş Istanbul was runner-up .
The surprise team of the 1973/74 season was Boluspor , with third place the team qualified for the first time for a European competition. Galatasaray Istanbul caused a disappointment. After winning three championships in a row, they were only fifth this season. Movers were Adana Demirspor and Kayserispor . Thus Adana was represented with two teams in the league and after Istanbul , Ankara and Izmir the fourth city that had participated with more than two teams in the 1st league.
Attendees
In addition to the remaining 14 clubs from the previous season , the champions of the last second division season Adana Demirspor and Kayserispor were promoted. While for Kayserispor the rise meant the first participation in the club's history in the 1st Lig, Adana Demirspor returned to the 1st Lig after 13 years of abstinence.
