Selahattin Karasu (born March 10, 1954 in Prilep ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. He played much of his career for Adanaspor and was involved in the runner-up of the first division season 1980/81 during this time , the greatest success in club history. He played three seasons for Fenerbahçe Istanbul and was involved in some important successes in the club's history during that time. He was part of the Fenerbahçe team that won the Turkish championship and the Turkish Cup for the second time in the club's history in the 1973/74 season , winning the Turkish double . Through the championship of the 1974/75 season , he was also part of the team that achieved the second title defense in the club's history.

Player career

society

The beginnings of Karasu's career are undocumented. He was born as a Rumelia Turk in Prilep, Yugoslavia . From the summer of 1971 he played for the Belgian club Royal Crossing Club de Schaerbeek .

After two seasons for Royal Crossing, he moved to the 1973/74 season for the Turkish first division club Fenerbahçe Istanbul . At his new club, Karasu quickly gained a regular place. With his club he won the TSYD Istanbul Cup , which was played pre-seasonally , although he was only used once in this cup. In his first season, the 1973/74 season , he and his team under the leadership of the Brazilian coach Valdir Pereira won the Turkish championship and the Turkish Cup . This made Karasu one of the Fenerbahçes squad that won the second Turkish double in the club's history. Karasu played 38 competitive games this season. Pereira also used him regularly in his second season, the 1974/75 season . This season Karasu's team managed to defend their title in the Turkish championship, the second title defense in the club's history. In addition, Karasu and his team won the President's Cup this season . After these successes, Fenerbahçe started the next season with Valdir Pereira, but replaced him after two matchdays with Abdulah Gegić . Under this coach, the team led the table for a long time, gambled away the championship on Trabzonspor in the last few days and became runner-up. This season Karasu lost his regular place, but was substituted on regularly as supplementary games.

After the second defense of the title was lost, the management of Fenerbahçe decided to redesign their squad. Since Karasu had lost his regular place in the last season, he accepted the offer from Adanaspor in the summer of 1976 and switched to this southern Turkish first division club. At this club he was one of the most important performers from the start, but in his ten years of service he was not able to play more than 30 league games due to injury. After he achieved relegation in his first season with Adanaspor only on the last day of the game, he finished the season 1977/78 with his team in fourth place and thus repeated the best first division placement to date. With this placement, he and his team also qualified for the UEFA Cup . In the 1980/81 season , his club became the surprise team of the season and played for the championship for a long time, but fell from the top of the table towards the end of the season and ended the season as runner-up. This achieved the best first division placement in the club's history. His club missed relegation in the summer of 1984 and was relegated to the then second Turkish league .

After Adanaspor could not achieve promotion to the 1st Lig in two seasons , Karasu ended his career in the summer of 1986.

National team

In October 1973, Karasu was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in a friendly against Spain by national coach Coşkun Özarı and completed his first international match in this game. Two years later he also made his debut for the Turkish U-21 national team .

In total, he completed three U-21 internationals and one A international.

Coaching career

In the 1989/90 season Karasu took over the assistant coaching position at Adanaspor and thus assisted the head coach Đorđe Milić . In February 1991 he took over the post of head coach at Adanaspor on an interim basis and replaced Gündüz Tekin Onay .
