With teammates like Ziya Şengül , Yılmaz Şen , Ercan Aktuna and Levent Engineri , he formed the Fenerbahçes defense department for almost a decade, with the exception of injury-related failures.

Childhood, adolescence and studies

Birant was born into a working-class family in the Turkish capital Ankara . During his primary school years, the family moved to the industrially emerging province of Adapazarı . Birant's father, who was a machinist by trade, saw better job opportunities in this province. Here Birant finished elementary and middle school before the family moved back to Ankara. Birant attended the Yıldırım-Beyazit- Gymnasium in Ankara and graduated from high school here.

Player career

societies

Birant began club football during his school days at Ankara Toprakspor and played here until the summer of 1963. Birant played with Toprakspor for three years in the Ankara Bölgesel Ligi, a league that at that time had the status of the second highest division in Turkish football, and achieved in the The championship of this league in 1960/61. Through his work for Toprakspor, he was recruited by those responsible for the then first division club PTT SK for its youth department. At PTT he was also involved in the training sessions of the professional team from head coach Sabri Kiraz , a former player from Fenerbahçe Istanbul . In the summer of 1963 he was then fully involved in the professional squad by head coach Bedri Kaya and made his professional debut in the first division game on October 5, 1963 against Kasımpaşa Istanbul . In this encounter he played from the beginning and for the full length of the game. From then on, he conquered a regular place and completed almost all of his team's league games by the end of the season. In addition, he only became a U-21 national player this season.

These rapid advances in Birant's career made him one of the most sought-after young players of the 1964 summer transfer period. Birant decided to move to Fenerbahçe Istanbul . In his first season for this club, he immediately established himself as a regular player. His team reached the Turkish championship in this season, the 1964/65 season. Birant completed 24 of his team's 30 possible league games this season. In the following season Fenerbahçe failed to defend their title. During this season Birant played z. Partly due to injury not consistently and came to 10 out of 30 possible league games. In the following season for this club he was again a regular player. His club missed the Turkish championship again, but won the Balkan Cup and the Spor Toto Cup . In the season 1967/68 the team finally reached the Turkish championship again. In addition, the team won the Turkish Cup this season , making it a Turkish double winner for the first time in the club's history . Birant completed 23 of the possible 30 league games of his team this season. In the following season Fenerbahçe failed to defend their title. The team finished the next season as champions again and also won the pre-season TSYD Istanbul Cup . Birant suffered repeated injuries. So Birant completed only six league games in the next season until February 1971 and was out for the rest of the season. In the next three seasons Birant established itself again as a regular player for long stretches, but his team had no chance in this and the next two game periods in the championship and had to watch the arch-rival Galatasaray Istanbul with three championships in a row, the Turkish football of that time dominated. While Birant was able to complete 20 league games in 1971/72, he stayed in only ten league appearances in the 1972/73 season. The only bright spots in these last three seasons were the Prime Minister's Cup and the President's Cup players in the 1972/73 season . It was not until the 1973/74 season that his team found their way back to their old strength. This season the Turkish double was won for the second time in the club's history with the championship and the cup. In addition, the TSYD Istanbul Cup was won before the season. Birant only played three competitive games over the entire season. On top of that, he broke his foot during the February 1974 encounter and was out the rest of the season.

Since Birant, plagued by injuries several times over his entire career, was not available to his team and suffered a complicated broken foot at the age of 30, he decided to end his career in the summer of 1974. With a farewell game, in which Fenerbahçe met a national team, Birant ended his playing career in the summer of 1974.

National team

Birant's national team career began when he was with Ankara Toprakspor . Here he fell to the person in charge of the Turkish U-18 national team who nominated him for an upcoming test match. Birant made his general international debut against Romania's U-18s. After this game he played two more times for the Turkish U-18s.

In May 1964 he was nominated for the first time in the squad of the Turkish U-21 national team and played in the game against the English U-21 national team for the first time for the U-21 of his country. By 1969 he completed eight other U-21 missions. In most of these games, however, Birant was over 21 years old.

In 1963 he was appointed to the squad of the Turkish national team by the incumbent national coach Cihat Arman and made his international debut in a friendly against the Polish national team . By the spring of 1969, Birant came to 14 more international appearances.
