László Weiner
László Weiner (born April 9, 1916 in Szombathely , Austria-Hungary , † July 25, 1944 in the Lukov forced labor camp) was a Jewish-Hungarian pianist , composer and conductor .
Life
Weiner studied piano playing and conducting at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest . From 1934 to 1940 he studied composition with Zoltán Kodály and received an award in 1941. In 1942 he married the singer Vera Rózsa . Due to racist reasons, the Hungarian Horthy regime restricted its performance possibilities to the concert hall of the Jewish self-help organization Omike . In February 1943 he was deported to a Hungarian forced labor camp in Lukov, where he died in July 1944. Kodály's attempt to ease Weiner's living conditions in the camp with a petition came to nothing.
