Léon-Jules Lemaître (born October 14, 1850 in Longueville-sur-Scie , † June 6, 1905 in Essarts) was a French painter from the Rouen School.

Lemaître began his apprenticeship at the school for painting and drawing in Rouen , then he studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Jean-Léon Gérôme .

After studying in the spirit of academism, Lemaître became a follower of impressionism . With his friends Charles Frechon, Charles Angrand and Joseph Delattre, he formed a group of young painters, later called "School of Rouen" (École de Rouen) by art critics.

His unconventional, spirited painted works brought him little success in Rouen. Later Lemaître had to curb his temperament, creating landscapes and street scenes, often in fog and rain.

Many of his works are in the collections of the museums in Rouen, Louviers and Elbeuf .
