Charles Théophile Angrand (* 19th April 1854 in Criquetot-sur-Ouville , Seine-Maritime , † 1. April 1926 in Rouen ) was a French painter of the late Impressionism .

Life

After studying at the Academy École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen, Charles Théophile Angrand settled in Paris in 1882 . In 1884 he was a founding member of the Société des Artistes Indépendants and made the acquaintance of Georges Seurat , Henri Edmond Cross and Paul Signac , whom he joined from 1891/1892. At the same time he moved to the Mediterranean coast and later to Normandy for health reasons . Crucially influenced by the neo-impressionist art of color separation, Angrand himself became a well-known representative of pointillism . His works are u. a. in New York in the Metropolitan Museum of Art , in Paris in the Musée d'Orsay or in Geneva in the Petit Palais .

Charles Angrand was heavily involved in the financing of the anarchist magazine Les Temps nouveaux , published by Jean Grave , from 1899 until his death a. a. repeatedly provided picture contributions for the magazine and donated works for the benefit of raffles or provided pictures to illustrate books that were published by Les Temps nouveaux (for example in 1913 for the new edition of Kropotkin's La Loi et l'Autorité ).
