Léon Chavalliaud
Léon-Joseph Chavalliaud (born January 29, 1858 in Reims , † February 5, 1919 in Boissy-sans-Avoir ) was a French sculptor who also worked in England .
Life
After completing his apprenticeship at Atelier Bulteau in Reims, Chavalliaud studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with the help of a scholarship from his hometown . His main teachers were Alexandre Falguière , François Jouffroy and Louis Auguste Roubaud . In the 1880s he received a Prix de Rome for his work Mère Spartiate (" Spartian Mother") . He was now gaining more and more recognition, especially with his portrait sculptures . He lived and worked in England during the 1890s and early 1900s.
Chavalliaud was married to Marie Julienne Rousseau. His remains have been resting on the Cimetière du Nord in Reims since 1923.
