Léon Huber

Léon Huber Riz à Porta (born July 25, 1936 in Zurich ; † November 27, 2015 there ) was a Swiss news anchor .

Life

Huber, a trained actor was, from 1963 until his retirement in 1996 speaker of the evening news of the Swiss television . His longtime activity and popularity as a news anchor earned him the nickname «Mr. Tagesschau »a. Typical for him were his almost perfect pronunciation without slip of the tongue and his calm manner. Léon Huber was also called the “master of minimal facial expressions”.

During the Tagesschau on May 3, 1981, masked demonstrators stormed into the studio and showed a banner with the words "Freedom and Sunshine for Giorgio Bellini". The Ticino Giorgio Bellini was considered a member of the Zurich youth movement and was arrested on the German-Swiss border in February 1981 for allegedly collaborating with the terrorist Carlos and was imprisoned in Germany. It later emerged that Bellini was falsely accused of complicity with Carlos and had to be compensated by the state.

In August 1990 Huber stuck out his tongue shortly before the start of the Tagesschau, but this sequence was already broadcast.

Huber was married from 1968 and had a daughter. He lived in Zurich.
