Léonard Jean Charles Baron Greindl (born August 9, 1798 in Brussels , † February 24, 1875 in Ixelles / Elsene ) was a Belgian lieutenant general and minister .

family

Léonard Greindl married Eleanor Ponthieure de Berlaere on August 11, 1834. The marriage produced four children, including Jules Greindl (1835-1917), Belgian diplomat and Minister of State, and Marie Greindl, who married the Catholic politician Charles Woeste in 1866 .

Life

Léonard Greindl joined the Dutch army on March 1, 1811 and became an influential military man, most recently lieutenant general of the infantry . In 1855 he succeeded Victor Anoul as extra-parliamentary war minister in the De Decker cabinet . In 1856 he was raised to the nobility as a baron by King Leopold I. In 1857 Edouard Berten became his successor.

He received numerous awards, such as Commander of the Order of Leopold , Grand Cross of the Russian Order of the White Eagle , the Order of the Zähringer Lion , the Mecidiye Order of the First Class, Knight 1st Class of the Order of the Red Eagle , Commander of the Order of Knights of Avis and the Ducal Saxon-Ernestine House Order .
