The former restaurant Löns Mühle

The Löns Mühle was a flour mill and restaurant in Holsterhausen , a former district of Herne-Eickel , today Herne . The border between Bochum and Herne runs right through the building. His address Dorstener Str. 574 therefore exists in both cities.

history

The mill was one of the extensive holdings of the manor Haus Nosthausen , which around 1842 had a size of about 100  hectares . The estate in the parish of Eickel belonged to the von Aschebrock family, who were a branch line of the lords of Dorneburg , since the 14th century . In the 18th century, the Löns family, ancestors of Hermann Löns , managed the estate and later leased it. Eventually the Löns family acquired part of the land belonging to the manor. However, it is not possible to determine exactly when she became the owner. It may have happened around 1787.

The estate's mill was located on the Dorneburg stream and was driven by it. Not far from there, Heinrich Löns built a restaurant on today's Gahlener Kohlenweg , the former Dorstener Chaussee. The municipal border between Wanne-Eickel and Bochum ran right through the restaurant. Carters could spend the night there and have meals. The inn was also the relay station of the riding post. With the construction of the Cologne-Mindener Railway , the transports shifted to the railroad, the relay station was canceled. Löns Mühle became a well-frequented excursion destination. Around 1880, Löns built a horse racing track with a roofed spectator stand on the meadows behind the restaurant, which was abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1868 Heinrich Löns enlarged his property by purchasing the mill and the mill pond across from his restaurant. The last miller was Heinrich Löns, who died on October 30, 1936. The pub's taprooms were later used as a "car stop" before the restaurant business was given up in the mid-1970s.

The Löns Mühle allotment gardeners' association is now located on the former meadows of the Löns Mühle, while the former guest house houses business premises. Today, the “Allotment Gardeners Association on the green ring” and two industrial companies are located on the premises of the Nosthausen house.
