Lúcio Bellentani

Lúcio Antonio Bellentani (born November 30, 1944 in Birigui , † June 19, 2019 in Jacareí ) was a Brazilian worker and member of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCB).

Life

Bellentani worked as a toolmaker at Volkswagen do Brasil between 1964 and 1972 . He was a secret member of the Brazilian Communist Party and organized union meetings within the plant. On July 29, 1972, he was arrested at his workplace at the VW factory in São Bernardo do Campo . He was then taken to a torture center run by the Brazilian military dictatorship . He suffered there u. a. the “ parrot swing ” ( Portuguese pau de arara ) and electric shocks.

As part of the Brazilian human rights collective "Memória, Verdade, Justiça e Reparação" ("Remembrance, Truth, Justice and Reparation"), he campaigned for the clarification of the VW Group's involvement in the repression of the military dictatorship and said on July 19, 2012 in front of the municipal truth commission "Vladimir Herzog" of the city of São Paulo .

As part of the investigation by the São Paulo federal prosecutor's office against VW, Bellentani reported on December 16, 2015 about his arrest in 1972 at VW and the torture he suffered.

Bellentani broke off a conversation with the historian Christopher Kopper commissioned by VW and justified this to the ARD with the fact that Kopper was not a representative of VW.

Bellentani died in Jacareí in June 2019 at the age of 74.
