The Lübecker Ruder-Klub e. V. (LRK) is a rowing club from Lübeck founded in 1907 .

history

The Lübeck Rowing Club was founded on March 28, 1907 by 27 members. They split off from the Lübeck Rowing Society of 1885 (LRG), which in turn was founded in 1885 from the Lübeck gymnastics club , which dissolved its rowing team in 1884. The new club wanted to focus more on regatta and competition rowing under rowing attendant Hans A. Hansen and received from the city an empty wooden shed on the railway embankment, today's Possehlstrasse , as a boat storage facility. The war hit the young club hard in 1914, because all members were probably conscripted, the loss was great. In 1918 the homecomers started again with success, because in 1922 the club eight won the German Rowing Championship .

On April 24, 1938, the Katharineum rowing team , which was about to be taken over by the Marine Hitler Youth, was accepted into the Lübeck Rowing Club as the youth division K. This measure enabled the democratic structure of the rowing team to be preserved in the Third Reich.

In the 1970s, the Lübeck rowing club / Katharineum rowing team was founded. This made it possible for the students of the Katharineum to train in the Lübeck rowing club and also to achieve success at major regattas. These successes include the representation of the German Rowing Association (DRV) , as well as several German (age group) championships . As this concept was very successful, it became known throughout Germany as the "Lübeck Model".

The Lübeck rowing club is a pure men's rowing club. However, there is a very good cooperation at all levels with the Lübeck women's rowing club , which has been based in the same boathouse since it was founded in 1919. The separation is therefore mainly of historical significance and is a special feature, as there are only six men's rowing clubs in Germany. Another specialty is the spelling of “Klub” with “K”. This clearly shows that at that time people wanted to set themselves apart from the elite English rowing clubs.

Location of the LRK

The LRK boathouse has been located on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal with a view of Lübeck Cathedral since 1908 . Due to the location within sight of the Trave , Stadtgraben and Elbe-Lübeck Canal, various rowing tours around the historic old town of Lübeck are possible, which are particularly attractive for visitors from outside the city. The tours on the Wakenitz are scenic . With little effort, this tour can be continued over the Ratzeburg Lake to the Schaalsee .

Socializing

In addition to the promotion of youth and rowing, the promotion of sociability is also laid down in the association's statutes . In addition to the foundation festival and the victory party (together with the Lübeck women's rowing club), the Christmas party in particular attracts clubmates and guests from all over Germany to Lübeck every year.
