At the Sahlweidenteich

The Lübschütz ponds are a series of artificially created bodies of water west of the village of Lübschütz in the district of Leipzig in Saxony, which was incorporated according to Machern . They belong to the nature reserve Lübschützer Teiche - Tresenwald .

description

A flat valley runs in a west-east direction about two and a half kilometers north of Machern. Eight ponds are dammed by transverse embankments . The distance from the first to the last is around 3.5 kilometers and the difference in altitude is around 30 meters.

The names of the ponds are (starting in the west, their area in brackets) Tresenteich (formerly Holzteich, 2.3 ha ), Iristeich (5.8 ha), Sahlweidenteich (formerly Zeylweidenteich, 6.1 ha), Galgenteich (6.0 ha), spring pond (2.9 ha), barbed nut pond (0.4 ha), alluvial pond (0.7 ha) and mill or community pond (0.6 ha). The ponds are traversed by a stream that rises in the Tresenwald and is called Tresenbach in the upper reaches. From the ponds on, it is called Bach von den Lübschützer Ponds . it flows into the Seebach at Püchau and this north of Püchau into the Mulde .

The ponds are all surrounded by rows of trees. To the north there is arable land, to the south there is forest and allotment gardens and a golf course at the iris pond . The bank areas of the ponds, especially to the west and north, are partially overgrown with reeds . On the south side a path leads from the federal highway 107 to the Irissee past oak trees from the time the ponds were created.

use

The ponds are primarily used for fish farming . They are managed by the private pond management. This offers mainly carp, but also pike, tench and catfish. Fishing is only allowed in the Mühlteich and with a fishing permit in the Sahlweidenteich.

The ponds also offer recreational opportunities. At the Sahlweidenteich there is the restaurant Lübschützer Teiche with a children's playground, a petting zoo, pedal boat rental and a small beach with sunbathing lawn. Next to it, south of the Galgen lake, is a campsite and a bungalow village .

history

The area of the ponds was part of the property of the Püchau manor . Since seven ponds are already recorded in the miles sheets of Saxony , their construction can be dated to the 18th century at the latest. With the exception of the bar and the Sahlweidenteich, all ponds still have their original names. The iris pond was only created during the GDR era.

Around 200 meters south of the spring pond, a bunker was built between 1968 and 1971, which in the event of war would have provided space for around 100 full-time employees of the Ministry of State Security . The facility, now generally known as the Stasi bunker , can be visited one day a month.
