In the introduction to an interview with editor-in-chief Michael Weinzettl, the Romanian culture magazine Sapte Seri wrote: “Whether you enter the offices of a large advertising agency or a small creative boutique, you will see a collection of Lürzer's archive on some white shelf everywhere . You seldom find the magazine at the kiosk, but everyone who deals with advertising knows it. For the advertisers it is their tool for inspiration and small 'innocent thefts'. "

The magazine was founded and named after Walter Lürzer , co-founder of the advertising agenciesTBWA Frankfurt” and “Lürzer, Conrad”. The latter merged in 1980 with " Leo Burnett ". The copywriter, Cannes Lion winner and creative director founded Lürzer's Archive in 1984, the first issue appeared in October 1984.

Initially based in Frankfurt am Main , the magazine moved its headquarters to Salzburg in 2002 before the editorial team and management moved to Vienna in 2008 . After Walter Lürzer's death in April 2011, editor-in-chief Michael Weinzettl also became the publisher of the trade journal .

Since 2004 Lürzer's Archiv has been publishing the "200 Best" series. The volumes present works from the fields of advertising photography , digital artists , illustration and packaging design at regular intervals . The 200 best creatives in each category will be selected by a specialist jury on the basis of the work submitted.
