The Lýðræðisvaktin ( party letter L ) is a political party in Iceland . The party, whose name can literally be translated as Democracy Watch or Democracy Observer , also uses the English name Iceland Democratic Party (Democratic Party of Iceland).
history
The party was founded on February 16, 2013 with the main aim of adopting the new constitution drawn up by the Constitutional Council in the previous legislative period .
When it first ran for parliamentary elections in 2013 , the party won around 2.5 percent and thus did not receive a seat in the national parliament Althing . The party did not run for the general election in Iceland in 2016 .
program
In its program , the party advocates, among other things:
- increased autonomy for the municipalities
- Iceland is to be made a destination of untouched nature
- sustainable and competitive agriculture
- Ensure social security and social services
- a stable economic recovery and an efficient division of labor between state and private companies
- strict regulation of financial institutions, among other things through the abolition of indexing of mortgage loans
- Adoption of the new constitution drawn up by the Constitutional Council in the previous legislative period in a referendum
- Equality between men and women in all areas of society
- Accession to the European Union by holding a binding referendum
