In 1910 the Lausanne-Échallens-Bercher-Bahn (LEB) put a meter-gauge tank locomotive of the type G 3/3 with the road number 8 into service. The locomotive has been preserved and is used for nostalgic trains.

The steam locomotive, built as a single piece with the serial number 2095 by the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works in Winterthur (SLM), has a service weight of 23.2 t and a top speed of 30 km / h .

history

After the opening of the route from Échallens to Bercher and the opening of the Nestlé milk powder factory in Bercher, freight traffic increased by leaps and bounds. The two-axle steam locomotives from the 1870s had to be replaced by new locomotives at the beginning of the 20th century due to their age. In 1903 and 1905, the SLM delivered the two identical tank locomotives G 3/3 6 Gros-de-Vaud and 7 Talent . In 1910, the G 3/3 8 twin steam locomotive with Walschaerts control , spindle and Hardy vacuum brakes, which was somewhat more powerful than the G 3/3 6 and 7, followed as a one -off. It was the last new steam locomotive to be delivered to the LEB. With their appearance, the two-axle steam locomotives were retired. Steam locomotives were probably still procured in 1920 and 1921. The G 2 × 2/2 1 to 3 Mallet locomotives built in 1893 by the Elsässische Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft Grafenstaden (EMBG ) were taken over by the Yverdon – Sainte-Croix Railway (YSteC).

Areas of application

After delivery in 1910, the steam locomotive ran passenger and freight trains from Lausanne-Chauderon via Échallens to Bercher . After the electrification of the LEB in 1936, the steam locomotive became redundant and drew in Échallens. From 1941 to 1945 it was stationed as a war reserve in Montbovon as a result of the Second World War .

From 1945 to 1977 the steam locomotive ran on the Bözingen – Mett works near Biel . It was owned by the Renfer woodworks ; it was also operated by its staff and, as far as the small maintenance was concerned, also maintained. From 1967, however, a Tm 2/2 diesel locomotive newly built by Moyse largely took over the works traffic.

In 1973 the steam locomotive briefly ran steam trains on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the LEB. After the main workshop of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in Biel could no longer maintain steam locomotives, the steam locomotive was handed over to the LEB in 1977. Since then, it has been stationed in Échallens operationally again.

Coloring

As of 2015, the steam locomotive is painted completely black.

Whereabouts

The steam locomotive has been running regularly in front of historic trains since 1977, currently between Cheseaux , Échallens and Bercher on its original route network. The C 2  10, B 2  11, C 2  12 and C 2  20 passenger cars as well as the Z 2  5 mail car , which has been converted into a bar car, are available for this purpose.
