Lymphocyte function-associated antigen 3 (LFA-3) is a surface protein from the group of glucuronyltransferases .
properties
LFA3 binds to CD2 on T lymphocytes . It is involved in the activation of T-lymphocytes and in the rosetting of erythrocytes on T-lymphocytes. In T cells, this results in antigen- independent cell contact , accelerated cell division of naive T helper cells and induction of interferon-gamma in memory cells . Binding to CD2 also activates the LFA3-carrying cell. LFA-3 is glycosylated and partially has a GPI anchor . Two isoforms with 35 nucleotides difference at the 3 'end are formed from the gene consisting of six exons by alternative splicing , one with a GPI anchor and one with a transmembrane domain .
Some gene variants of LFA-3 are involved in the development of multiple sclerosis .
