LIT: potsdam is an international literature festival in Potsdam and Brandenburg founded in 2013 by the lit: pots eV association as a result of civic engagement . The focus of the festival is on readings and discussions with authors, academics and political scientists on different topics. In 2016 these were mainly climate change , migration, law and violence. An integral part of LIT: potsdam is the children's and youth program with readings and workshops in schools and other public places. In the meantime, over 1000 children and young people have been reached. The literature festival takes place every year for several days in summer and, in addition to established venues such as theaters and museums, offers exclusive access to private villas and gardens that open Potsdam's citizens to special literary formats.

Participating writers

A “Writer in Residence” has been accompanying the entire festival since 2014, getting to know colleagues from the literature and media industry and promoting literary exchange. In 2014 this was the writer Hans Magnus Enzensberger , in 2015 Martin Walser and in 2016 Daniel Kehlmann . "Writer in Residence" 2017 is Hanns-Josef Ortheil . Other guests of the literature festival were a. John von Düffel , Antje Rávic Strubel , Juli Zeh , Karen Duve , Peter Sloterdijk , Herta Müller , Sebastian Fitzek , Durs Grünbein , Ferdinand von Schirach , Paul Maar and Julia Franck .

The festival is funded by the state of Brandenburg and the city of Potsdam as well as other cooperation partners.

The patronage for LIT: potsdam 2016 was made by Martina Münch , Minister for Science, Research and Culture, and Jann Jakobs , Lord Mayor of the State Capital Potsdam.
