La Montanara

La Montanara ( German  Die Bergbewohnerin , German version as Das Lied der Berge ) is an Italian song by Toni Ortelli , which is known throughout the Alpine region and has acquired a folk song character.

The alpinist Ortelli composed the song while he was on the Pian della Mussa plateau at the head of the Piedmontese Val d'Ala. The melody part was later arranged by Luigi Pigarelli for the Trento mountaineering choir Coro della SOSAT as a complete male choir .

The German text is by Ralph Maria Siegel . The song was translated into numerous languages ​​and, according to the music publisher Bosworth & Co, sold more than 20 million records worldwide by 1997.

The Montanara Choir from Stuttgart, which derives its name from the song, sang it for the first time in 1958.

The song is the hymn of the HC Ambrì-Piotta ice hockey club .

In the song Hohe Berge by Miss Menke , reference is made to this song with the line “La Montanara for the lens”.
