La brocca rotta is an opera in one act by Flavio Testi . In terms of content, the work is based on Heinrich von Kleist's play Der zerbrochne Krug , which was translated into Italian as a free adaptation by Italo Chiusano . The opera premiered on May 30, 1997 at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. The German premiere took place on September 8, 2007 at the Erfurt Theater.

The village judge Adam tries to explain his damaged condition to the clerk Licht with an unfortunate fall. In fact, he had tried unsuccessfully to approach Eva the previous night, breaking a jug and losing his wig. To make matters worse, the judge Walter has announced himself to visit. Eva's mother Marta Rull appears on court day and accuses Eva's fiancé Roberto of breaking her mug. Although Eva could clear everything up, she is silent for good reason. Only Brigida's testimony reveals the truth.

Work history

The libretto by Italo Chiusano is a free Italian translation of Heinrich von Kleist's comedy Der zerbrochne Krug .

The opera was premiered on May 30, 1997 under the musical direction of Massimo de Bernart at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna - together with Mascagni Cavalleria rusticana . Walter Pagliaro directed the film. It sang u. a. Armando Ariostini (Adam), Laura Cherici (Eva) and Serena Lazzarini (Marta).

The German premiere took place on September 8, 2007 at the Erfurt Theater together with the world premiere of Testis Mariana Pineda . Lorenz Aichner was the musical director, Peter Hailer directed, the stage design was by Hank Irwin Kittel and the costumes by Uta Meenen. Michael Tews (Walter), Frank Blees (Adam), Peter Umstadt (light), Helena Zubanovich (Marta), Marisca Mulder (Eva), Jörg Zocher (Vito Tümpel), Erik Fenton (Roberto), Alice Rath (Brigida) sang and Susanne Rath (Lisa).
