The Lac d'Allos is the highest natural lake in Europe. It is located at an altitude of 2230 m above sea level in the Mercantour National Park in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur . There are special legal requirements with regard to plant and animal protection, mountain biking, camping, etc. You will find a diverse flora, some of which are endemic and can only be found here.

The quickest way to get there is from Allos via a well-developed road to Laus (toll road), from where the lake can be easily reached in around 45 minutes on foot. In the summer between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., a toll of € 8 is charged for cars (2.10 m height limit) and € 2 for two-wheelers. Outside of this time, the road can also be used free of charge. From the Cluite parking lot (no toll) it takes about 2 to 2.5 hours.

The lake was created in the Quaternary due to the melting of the snow. Not far from the lake is the Mont Pelat with a height of 3053 m. It can be reached from the lake in 2.5 to 3 hours via a hiking trail.

There is a small mountain hut at the lake. The lake can be easily circumnavigated within an hour, and marmots can be observed here.
