Lactuca alpestris is a species of the genus Lactuca in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). Synonyms are Scariola alpestris (Gand.) Holub and Lactuca viminea subsp. alpestris (Gand.) Feráková .

Lactuca alpestris is a perennial stem hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of growth of 5 to 25, rarely up to 40 centimeters. The rhizome is many-headed and thick. The stem is prostrate. In the upper area it is sparse and its branches are not extended. The leaves run down briefly. The fruits are 7 to 8 millimeters in size, the beak 1 to 1.5 millimeters.
The flowering period extends from June to October.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Occurrence
Lactuca alpestris is endemic to Crete . The species grows in Phrygana , scree slopes and hedgehog cushion heaths at altitudes of rarely from 100, mostly 900 to 2300 meters.
