Lacus Doloris - Latin for lake of torment - is a frozen lava lake on the moon , which is similar to the larger Maria in terms of its origin . The name was established by the International Astronomical Union in 1976.

The small, irregular mare area has a mean diameter of 110 kilometers and is located on the moon side facing the earth at the mean selenographic coordinates 17 ° 06 'north and 9 ° 00' east, between the Montes Haemus and the Mare Serenitatis in the northeast and the Mare Vaporum in the southwest . Next to it is Lacus Odii in the northwest , Lacus Gaudii and Lacus Lenitatis in the southeast, and Manilius crater in the south, with a diameter of 39 kilometers .
