Lacus Gaudii - Latin for lake of joy - is a solidified lava lake on the moon , which is similar in origin to the larger Maria . The name was established by the International Astronomical Union in 1976.
The small, irregular sea area with indefinite delimitation has a mean diameter of 113 kilometers and is located on the moon side facing the earth at the selenographic coordinates 16 ° 12 'north and 12 ° 36' east. The lake is surrounded in the north and northeast by the Montes Haemus and the Mare Serenitatis , in the southeast by Lacus Hiemalis , in the south by Lacus Lenitatis and in the west by Lacus Doloris .
