Lacy Gibson

Lacy Gibson (born May 1, 1936 in Salisbury (North Carolina) , † April 11, 2011 in Chicago ) was an American blues musician ( guitar and vocals ).

Lacy Gibson came to Chicago with his family at the age of 13, where he began his career with well-known blues greats such as Willie Dixon , Sunnyland Slim , Lefty Bates , Matt Murphy , T-Bone Walker and Muddy Waters . From the 1950s he performed with pop and jazz groups in Chicago clubs. He also worked as a session guitarist on recordings of numerous blues musicians, such as Son Seals , Otis Rush , Jimmy Reed , Billy "The Kid" Emerson , Billy Boy Arnold , Big Time Sarah and his brother-in-law Sun Ra , with whom he was recorded three blues numbers like "The Sky is Crying" appeared on The Singles . He released three albums under his own name, beginning with Wishing Ring , which was released in 1971 on the Sun Ras label. Gibson also recorded for the Chess Records label when he contributed the vocal part to Buddy Guy's song My Love Is Real in 1963 . In 1980 he recorded four tracks for the anthology Living Chicago Blues by Alligator Records ; The album Switchy Titchy was released on the Black Magic label . His last release was Crying for My Baby , which was released in 1996 on Delmark Records . In his final years he ran the club on Chicago's West Side named Ann's Love Nest , named after his wife Ann, where he also performed occasionally.
