The Lagazuoi cable car ( Italian: Funivia Lagazuoi ) is a cable car from Passo di Falzarego near Cortina d'Ampezzo to the Little Lagazuoi .

From the valley station located on the pass in 2101  m slm , the aerial tram runs on a suspension cable without supports to the 641 m higher in 2742 m slm on the edge of a rock face. The inclined length is 1150 m.

The two suspension ropes are 56 mm thick, the pull rope 26 mm and the counter rope 21 mm. A 15 mm thick rope for the mountain gondola hangs next to the lift. The suspension ropes are firmly anchored at both ends without a tensioning device.

The cabins for 50 passengers are not attached to the drive with a rigid hanger , but rather with wire ropes. You drive with max. 10.5 m / s (37.8 km / h). You don't have a sliding door that opens to the side, as usual, but two doors that are adjacent to each other and slide upwards. The current track was built in 1988 by Agudio - Poma Italia . The railway originally built by Hölzl from Merano dates back to the 1960s.

Accident on July 27, 1987

On the morning of July 27, 1987 an Italian average jet aircraft type Aermacchi MB-326 with its wing, the pull cable to the cable car. The machine of the Italian Air Force , which took off from Vicenza Airport , was on a training flight and, as a result of the damage sustained in the accident, crashed 5 minutes later near San Giorgio della Richinvelda , around 84 kilometers from the scene of the accident. The pilot and copilot were able to save themselves with the ejection seat and only suffered minor injuries.

The two cable car cabins were brought to a standstill by the emergency brakes. In the lower cabin, which had left the valley station a few seconds earlier, there were 25 people in addition to the cabin operator, five of whom had to be treated by a doctor at the hospital in Cortina d'Ampezzo with minor injuries . The cabin that had left the mountain station was already above the several hundred meter high abyss. Except for the uninjured cabin operator, it had not been manned.
