The Laguna Hill ( Spanish Monte de Laguna , in the United Kingdom Cross Hill ) is a 160 m high hill in the north-west of Deception Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises on the edge of an eponymous lagoon , which is now known as Stancomb Cove , on the southwest side of Telefon Bay .
His Spanish name first appears on an Argentine map from 1956. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this into English in 1965. The namesake of the 1954 UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee naming Cross Hill (from English cross 'cross' ) is a wooden cross that whalers had probably erected at the top of the hill.
