Lahn-Dill-Eder (church district)

The Lahn-Dill-Eder district is the northernmost district of the Limburg diocese . The district gets its name from the three rivers Lahn , Dill and Eder , which flow through the area. The district goes from Sinn (Lahn-Dill district) in the south to Battenberg (Waldeck-Frankenberg district) in the north.

Size and location

In terms of area, the district is one of the largest diocese districts, but due to the diaspora situation, it has comparatively few Catholics (23,220. For comparison: The diocese Limburg with its 11 districts has a total of 669,271 (December 31, 2008 / AP2010)). There are three parishes in the district. These were created in 2016 through the amalgamation of several parishes and were based on the so-called "pastoral rooms". The Catholic district office can be found in Dillenburg . After the retirement of Pastor Niermann (Herborn), the District Dean is now Pastor Christof May from the Wetzlar church district .

There are currently three parishes:

St. Josef Biedenkopf

In addition to St. Josef, the parish of St. Josef Biedenkopf also includes Maria Himmelfahrt Breidenbach , Maria Queen Gladenbach , St. Johannes Nepomuk, Bad Endbach -Hartenrod and St. Marien Battenberg . The formerly independent parishes / parishes became on July 10, 2016. Approx. 7,900 Catholics live in the new large parish, the total area is almost 570 km² and extends from Hartenrod to Bromskirchen and from Buchenau to Oberdieten. The pastoral room is divided into five parishes or parish vicarages.

Herz Jesu Dillenburg

The parish Herz Jesu Dillenburg is an amalgamation of the former parishes / parishes Herz Jesu Dillenburg , Maria Himmelfahrt Haiger , St. Josef Eschenburg - Eibelshausen and To the holy angels Haiger- Fellerdilln .

St. Petrus Herborn

On January 1, 2015, the parishes of Hl. Geist Bicken, Hl. Dreifaltigkeit Breitscheid, Maria Himmelfahrt Driedorf, St. Petrus Herborn and St. Michael Sinn have merged to form a new parish that bears the name St. Petrus. The founding service took place in Herborn on January 11, 2015 with the participation of all congregations.

District Synodal Council

In the District Synodal Council (BSR) the members of the District Assembly are represented as well as the elected representatives of the priests and deacons, as well as the elected representatives of the pastoral and parish officers who work full-time as pastors in the district. The District Synodal Council is involved in all matters affecting the Catholic Church in the northern part of the Lahn-Dill-Eder district and in parts of the Marburg-Biedenkopf district. He advises the district dean and is involved in decision-making and decision-making in joint responsibility of office and mandate. The term of office for both bodies is four years.

In the next few months the two large parishes Herz Jesu Dillenburg and St. Petrus Herborn will function as the largest parish in the Diocese of Limburg. Already today the parishes share the pastors.
