Lake Cowichan is a small town in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island in British Columbia , Canada . The community is located on Cowichan Lake , about 30 kilometers west of Duncan . The settlement is traversed by the Cowichan River , which rises here in the lake.

Although Lake Cowichan is now only a small town, the Cowichan Valley was once one of the lumbering centers in British Columbia. The small town is not only the starting point for access to the lake, but also for the surrounding provincial parks such as the Cowichan River Provincial Park or the Gordon Bay Provincial Park . Furthermore, the route of the Trans Canada Trail leads through the small town. The history of the settlement goes back further, however, as the area was already a settlement and hunting area of the First Nation, here the Lake Cowichan First Nation , before the settlement of Europeans .

The award of local government for the settlement took place on August 19, 1944 ( incorporated as the Village Village Municipality of Lake Cowichan ). Since November 26, 1996, the community has the status of a small town ( town ).
