Lakeland (also known as Lakeland Downs ) is a village in the Cook Shire , Queensland , Australia . According to the 2016 Australian census, Lakeland has a population of 299 people. The place is named after William Lakeland , who was one of the first settlers on the Cape York Peninsula .
