Map with all coordinates: The Mulligan Highway (formerly Cooktown Developmental Road ) is a new state route in Queensland , Australia . It leads from Cooktown over a length of 270 km to Mareeba on the east coast of the Cape York Peninsula .
Named after the Bushman James Venture Mulligan , the paved highway follows the course of the old Cooktown Developmental Road. It was completed in 2006.
Since the old unpaved track was replaced, travel times from Cairns to Cooktown have almost halved from 6 hours to 3.5 hours.
