List of highways in Queensland
Queensland , as the second largest state in Australia in terms of area, is also the most decentralized. The network of highways spansmost of the state, unlike, for example, in sparsely populated Western Australia . Even the outback tracks in Queensland are well preserved as they run through relatively densely populated areas.
The development of the road network varies from the 8-lane Pacific Motorway , which connects Brisbane with the Gold Coast , to unpaved tracks in the outback . This diversity of the different types of trunk roads reflects not only the population density, but also the differences in the terrain and other climatic conditions. The awards on the various highways are just as varied. In Queensland, all of the schemes used over the decades occur simultaneously. In addition to the old National Route System and the State Route System , recognizable by the signs with a blue background, to the modern alphanumeric names and the special notation in the Brisbane metropolitan area, they are all used in parallel.
