The Smith Street Motorway (or Smith Street Extension ) is a short freeway on the Gold Coast in the extreme southeast of the Australian state of Queensland . It connects the Gold Coast Highway (S2) in Southport to the west with the Pacific Motorway (M1).
The road is 3 miles from the Pacific Motorway (Exit 66) to the junction with Parklands Drive . From there it runs as a motor road to High Street in Southport and then turns into North Street to the Gold Coast Highway.
Griffith University (Gold Coast Campus) and Parklands Gold Coast , Southport's exhibition center, are along this route . The Gold Coast University Hospital is also to be built on this route.
A remarkable red footbridge over Smith Street was completed in 2007. It connects the Parklands campus of Griffith University with the new site on the south side of Smith Street.
