The geography of South Australia can be divided into two parts. First, the densely populated, water-rich corner in the southeast and the arid outback in the rest of the state. As a result, most of the highways are in the densely populated part. The Eyre Highway to Perth and the Stuart Highway to Darwin are the only highways through the sparsely populated outback. The remaining roads are unpaved outback tracks .
