The West Normanby River is a river in the north of the Australian state of Queensland , in the Far North Queensland region on the Cape York Peninsula .

River course

The river has its source in the Atherton Tablelands to the west of Daintree National Park , part of the Great Dividing Range , around 80 kilometers southwest of Cooktown . It flows north and forms the Normanby River about five kilometers west of Mount Macdonald together with the East Normanby River .

Origin of name

Like the main river, the West Normanby River is named after the Marquess of Normanby , Queensland Governor 1871–1874.
