Collinder 69 , also called the λ-Orionis cluster after the Bayer designation of its brightest member , is an open star cluster in the constellation Orion . The star cluster, which was included by Per Collinder in the catalog named after him , is located in the "head" of the constellation Orion. The brightest star of the 40 or so cluster members is the double star Meissa (λ Orionis). Another cluster member that is already freely visible is φ¹ Orionis. φ² Orionis is not a member of the cluster, but a foreground star. Other physical members are already visible with suitable binoculars. Cr 69 is surrounded by the weak emission nebula Sharpless 2-264, which is mainly excited to glow by Heka.
