Life
Lambert von Haven was the son of the Stralsund portrait painter Salomon Haven († 1670), who had settled in Bergen around 1625, adopted as a citizen in 1633. Lambert's brother Michael von Haven († approx. 1683) was a portrait painter and drawing teacher at the Sorø Akademi and later in Frederiksborg . Lambert's son, Peter Nikolaj von Haven († turn of the year 1761/62) became the inspector of the Copenhagen Mint as a medalist and die cutter .
Lambert von Haven was by King Friedrich III. specifically supported by Denmark and Norway in his training. He was sent to Italy with his brother Michael. In addition to training in classical architecture, his assignment also included purchasing works of art for the collections of the Royal Court in Copenhagen. In 1668/69 he acquired 69 paintings for the royal family, mostly in Rome and Venice. After his return in 1670 he was appointed general builder in 1671. Under his leadership, the new city gate Nörreport (1670), which was demolished in 1856, the also not preserved Blue Lusthaus in the park of Rosenborg Castle and the commandant's apartment there. Christiansborg Palace received the gatehouse and extensions through him in 1674/75. His main work is the Church of the Redeemer , whose spiral tower was only added by the architect Laurids de Thurah in 1747/50 . Because of the poor building ground, the construction of the church dragged on from 1682 to the consecration in 1696 shortly after von Haven's death.
As administrator of the Royal Art Collections and administrator of Frederiksborg Castle, Lambert von Haven was also responsible for the furnishings. Its furnishings in the gallery and the audience hall remained undamaged in the castle fire in 1859.
